Frequently Asked Questions:

Will there be any assistance on the swim course is breaks are needed in the open water?

The course will have volunteers and lifeguards in kayaks if assistance is required. If you are having troubles, you will be able to hold the back of the kayaks as long as there is no forward movement

What is the rule for wet suits? Are they allowed? And what If I need to rent one.

Triathlon Alberta determines if this will be a wetsuit legal race, which will be announced at 5:45am. Water temperature under 22C will require wetsuits.

Wetsuits cannot exceed 5 mm thickness anywhere. If the wetsuit is made in two pieces, the combined thickness in the overlapping areas may not exceed the 5 mm thickness limit.

Propulsion devices that create an advantage for the athlete, or a risk to others, are forbidden.

You can rent a wetsuit from Tri It Multisport in Calgary:

https://www.tri-it.ca/rentals/  or call them at (403) 270-7776

Does the swim take place in the lake or the pool?

All of our events take place in the lake. The course will have volunteers and lifeguards in kayaks if assistance is required. If you are having troubles, you will be able to hold the back of the kayaks as long as there is no forward movement.

Can I switch distances after I’ve already registered?

Yes you can. Please send an email to info@multisport.atthelake and provide your first and last name and the distance you would like to switch into. Requests to switch distances must be made before registration closes.

With respect to the bike route, is the road closed to traffic or is it more that volunteers/police will be directing traffic at major intersections?

As for the bike route, we have the beginning and end section of the road closed off, then as you past the beginning it is limited traffic monitored and flagged by professionals from Ledcor and the hi-way section is open road monitored and controlled by volunteers and our medical team. The turn around will be monitored and controlled with a ambulance (with lights) and a medical team. The hi-way that the course runs has limited traffic at this time, and you will be biking on the shoulder of the road.
